Flo Schell's paintings draw from personal material: a lifetime of interest in issues facing girls and women and her own life stories, particularly her experience with mothering and being mothered. When faced with her first blank canvas, she felt the empowerment of bringing to life a figure of her own imagination. And in doing so, found herself healing old wounds. Initially part of the Intentional Creativity Movement, she approached the canvas with an intention to bring forth an answer, or a solution, or even a hint, to a challenge she was facing. Eventually, she embraced the concept of Visionary Art....looking at the marks, lines and shapes she had placed on the canvas to find something that wanted to appear to her. With both styles of artmaking, Flo works directly from her heart.
She continues to explore figurative art and abstract art and experiments with various soundtracks as she moves and paints. Her repertoire includes rap, blues, rock, and jazz.
Ms. Schell''s art has been exhibited at the Monmouth Museum, NJ , torche' gallerie, nj, and urban studio unbound, yonkers, ny. Commisioned works reside in Brisbane, Australia and Toronto, Canada.
